The Lord is God Almighty

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; serve me faithfully and live a blameless life." (Gen. 17:1)(NLT)

The name "God Almighty" is a translation of the Hebrew El Shaddai, which refers to God as a great mountain. This name, which God used to reveal himself to the patriarchs, stresses God's splendor and majesty. Recall for a moment the overwhelming awe we experience at the sight of a great mountain. Now imagine how great God, who created that mountain, must be in comparison with us! In light of this great truth, let us walk before our God in humble obedience.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Maker of heaven and earth, honor and glory and praise are yours alone. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains. Enable us, with the help of your Spirit, to walk before you in righteousness and humility, so that your name will be glorified through all the earth. Amen.

I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord." (HCSB)
