What Kind of Worshiper Will You Be?

As we start a new year, we all need to ask ourselves, "What kind of worshiper will I be in 2009?" Will we be the kind of worshiper who longs to go to the house of the Lord (Ps. 122:1) or the kind that can't wait to get out of the worship service? Will we be the kind who can't spend enough time with God or the kind who finds it hard to go to church one hour a week? I want to encourage us all to be what Matt Redman (the worship leader best known for his song "The Heart of Worship") calls an unquenchable worshiper. In his book, he describes an unquenchable worshiper: "The unquenchable worshiper is different; from a heart so amazed by God and His wonders burns a love that will not be extinguished."
He talks about the 10 different kinds of worshipers we should be:
  • Unquenchable Worshiper--Can't get enough of God
  • Undone Worshiper--We are unholy worshipers worshiping a Holy God
  • Undignified Worshiper--Not caring what others think, be willing to be undignified for God when needed
  • Unpredictable Worshiper--Not rituals but a relationship with God (leave room for spontaneity)
  • Unveiled Worshiper--Being filled with God's presence so others see God when they look at us
  • Unstoppable Worshiper--Not allowing circumstances to determine our attitude of worship
  • Unnoticed Worshiper--Humble, not prideful (doing things for God's eyes not others)
  • Undivided Worshiper--Totally committed to God, not divided between God and our pleasure
  • Unsatisfied Worshiper--Never get enough of God (more we know, more we realize there is to know)
  • Unending Worshiper--Our worship does not end on this earth, it is eternal

So what kind of worshiper will you be in 2009?
